Notes on music
Song for Shavuot and brit milah (circumcision). According to Levi, the lyrics of this song, and presumably also the melody, are by Manduzio. The term “fermata” should refer to the biblical episode of Ex. 19 and the gathering of the Jews at the Sinai. It is interesting to note, however, that “fermata” is one of the most recurrent words in the liturgy of the “Via Crucis” (in English “Stations of the Cross”) which the Catholic church celebrates before Easter, a festival that is strictly connected to Pentecost, just as in the Hebrew calendar Passover is to Shavuot.
