Informant biographical notes
David Meghnagi was born in Tripoli, Lybia, in 1949. Born in a family much dedicated to music and liturgical chant, he is brother to Miriam Meghnagi, musician and scholar. The family managed to escape the anti-Jewish persecutions in 1967 and reached Rome. He teaches psychology at Roma Tre University. Aside from his scientific publications in this field and his work on various forms of antisemitism (he is member of IHRA delegation for Italy), he has cultivated the traditional Lybian synagogue song, publishing a collection of recordings of his own voice in the CD “Shiru Shir” (2006).
Huani Mimun was born and raised in Rome. He attended services and was instructed in tefillah first at Bet Shmuel, then Beth El, learning from the previous generation of congregants born in Lybia, such as Shalom Tesciuba (Tripoli 1935 - Rome 2019). He was one of the founders of Temple Yehuda Or, where he is hazan.
