Le Danze del re David

Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco's "Le Danze Del Re David - rapsodia ebraica su temi tradizionali" was published and had its first execution in 1926. It is dedicated to the author's grandfather Bruto Senigaglia. Senigaglia was an amateur musician and a lover of belcanto : his notebook of musical excerpts from the Florence liturgy, notated in three-part harmony, had been discovered by Castelnuovo a few years before.

Here a performance of the Danze, from the festival "DALLAPICCOLA DAYS", Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale Firenze, Monday may 6th 2019. In the following pages we allow listening to specific movements of the composition, and their probable sources: melodies from the Florence tradition which Castelnuovo Tedesco was exposed to in his youth.
