This manuscript was certainly part of a much bigger liturgical music - The compositions here coincides and are in the same order as in ms. Par. 45 (Composizioni per coro all'unissono e soli per Tenore con accompagnamento di organo -Norsa, Vittorio), Cartone 5/B; Mus.28 of the Teresiana Library in Mantova - see the links below:

Notes on text

The manuscript was presumably part of a much bigger collection of liturgical pieces for the synagogue of Mantua . On the top left-side of the first page, after the name of Finzi appears a number - 42 - that might be page number of the original volume. While there was a composer, attested in Venice, called Lino Finzi, the person mentioned here was most probably a member of the choir, to which the score belonged.
We don't know when and how the manuscript arrived to the USA and when it became part of the Library of Congress' collection. In the manuscript (f. 4r) the name of Gallico Carlo is mentioned. On f. 11v also the surname Castelfranchi is mentioned.
