Active at the end of the XIX and beginning of the XX century, Teofilo Toledano was born in Livorno; moved to Firenze where he was the first choir conductor of the newly built Tempio Maggiore Israelitico but also organist for the Chiesa Riformata (Protestant Church). He then moved to Milan, and continued to be active as choir conductor, composer, and music critic.
