Carlo Schoenheit, born in Ferrara in 1900, survived deportation to Buchenwald during the Shoah, and acted for deades as cantor in the Ferrara synagogue after the war. He was one of Leo Levi's informants in the "raccolta 52" campaign, but recorded much more in subsequent years.
Simone Sacerdoti (Firenze, 1908 - Ferrara, 1990) received the title of "maskil" from the Collegio Rabbinico in Rome after the II world war, in 1946.; he was "vice-rabbino" in Livorno at the time of the Leo Levi recordings. He later was chief rabbi in Ferrara.
