Informant biographical notes
Born in Livorno, 20/07/1883. Studies at the Collegio Rabbinico di Livorno, where he receives his Semikhah with the title of Chakham in 1906. He operates as a military Rabbi in WWI and then proceeds to work as the Superintendent of Education, as a teacher and as President of the Jewish community. He dies in Livorno 05/09/1969.
Notes on recording
There is some confusion in available sources pertaining to the given name of the informant - on NLI he is listed as Umberto Menasci, on Santa Cecilia as A. Menasci. The voice, though, seems from a comparison to other item to be of rabbi Roberto Menasci, who is certainly one of the principal informants in Levi's campaign. Testimony from Livorno seems to confirm that we should attribute this recording to him (EF).
Notes on text
Originally, the berakhah was pronounced for the Granducato of Tuscany, later on for the King of Italy (in this recording: "Vittorio Emanuele III, Re d'Italia")
