El Adon - David Meghnagi, repertoire of the Lybian Jews in Rome

David Meghnagi was born in Tripoli, Lybia, in 1949. Born in a family much dedicated to music and liturgical chant, he is brother to Miriam Meghnagi, musician and scholar. The family managed to escape the anti-Jewish persecutions in 1967 and reached Rome. He teaches psychology at Roma Tre University. Aside from his scientific publications in this field and his work on various forms of antisemitism (he is member of IHRA delegation for Italy), he has cultivated the traditional Lybian synagogue song, publishing a collection of recordings of his own voice in the CD “Shiru Shir” (2006).

This version of El Adon would be sung by the chazan, as opposed to the "Hatiqwa" version where the whole congregation would join in.
